United in Sisterhood

Posted on August 12, 2024August 13, 2024 by Virtual Afro Woman

The 2024 Paris Olympics have officially come to an end. I watched a few of the games in the last few weeks. There was one thing I enjoyed most about them. It was the unity between the women’s team members. In the 4x400m relay race, Team USA easily captured a gold medal, and it was amazing to watch. There was no leader in this race. They each played a role in the team’s win, and they had a great lead throughout to obtain it. With the teams in the other sports such as basketball and gymnastics, I saw these all these women ‘United in sisterhood.’

Merriam-Webster defines sisterhood as the solidarity of woman based on shared conditions, experiences, or concerns. Being an athlete is not easy. Some sports are individual and others are team based. For us average women, in our day-to-day world, the idea of being part of the team is never highlighted as much as making it individually. Most women are put against each other competitively. This Olympic season allowed us to have a season of unity. When outsiders tried to speak negatively about members of one of the teams, they stood up for each other.

If you would like to bring sisterhood energy to your daily life, here are some tips…

  • Celebrate every win for yourself and other women around you. Jealousy gets us nowhere. Lifting each other up allows us to move forward in all areas.
  • Support for other women in any situation. This should be during the good and bad times. We each have our own journeys in life. But with support we can make it to the finish line.
  • Motivate each other in the path to reaching any goal you set your mind on.
