To Those Who Were Lost and Those Left Behind

Posted on September 11, 2023September 11, 2023 by Virtual Afro Woman

Today marks 22 years since the 9/11 tragedy here in the US and not a day goes by that we don’t forget all the lives lost. Those of us who were around can remember where we were when this all happened. I myself was in school in NYC and I saw the Twin Towers on fire from the window along with my classmates; our teachers had to pull the shades down and we went back to our learning, but this was after some of my friends in another class saw the second plane hit. No one knew what was to come as we would have never thought this was an act of terrorism. Suddenly, families started picking up their children early, and that’s when we knew this was real.

As we all know the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and that field in Pennsylvania with United Flight 93 were all locations that were affected by this event. Since this time, each year our country has honored those who were lost including the heroes of that day who saved many lives, but not their own. May we as people remember the selflessness of many on this day and the spirit of togetherness we saw in America during this time. May we as people never forget those who lost their life on that day and the many brave people who lost their life following this day from related illnesses.

Share your memories from that day and for those of you who may have lost someone, share their names because their memory will forever live on. Below you will find some memorial sites to learn about that day.

Hi thank you tara for reminding people about this very important day in history. i am a first responder of this devastation . I was there from the first day until about two years later. I remember this day 22 year later and i can still remember the pain that was suffered by all. I remember discovering body parts of the deceased, family members gathering at the site attempting to locate and ask question about relatives. I remember the police officers trying their best to keep the media and families back from this devastation. I remember the smell of gasoline and burning particle in the air. standing in the mist of this without a mask or protective gears. I was taking missing persons reports from concern family members, collecting DNA sample from family members to help with the identification of loves one. I REMEMBER EVERYTHING ABOUT SEPT 11, 2001 ALL BAD MEMORIES. The after effects of this day is losing your co workers and friends to various cancer diagnosis caused from this disaster.
I AM A FIRST RESPONDER OF THE WORLD TRADE 911 DISASTER AND CONTINUE TO SURVIVE 22 YEARS LATER WITH A HEART FULL OF HORRIBLE MEMORIES.
