Knowledge is Power and once you have it, passing it along is important. The art of support does not come easy to all. There are many who have the information but choose to give it to some and not all. Also, being able to receive support does not come easy for many. There are some people who want to give and the other person may not be accepting of the support. All of these scenerios can be due to experience or how one was raised. But, the time is now to work on educating each other on supporting and that of receiving.
From my personal experience and from speaking with others, there seems to be a new disconnect between generations. In the day-to-day work world, having experience does not always mean you know everything. But not having experience does not mean you know everything. As someone who is new to the work, it is your responsibility to take in the knowledge and allow it to help develop your skills. Once those skills are refined then you can spread your knowledge to others. You may even be helpful to those who once gave you support because that’s the art of support and receiving.
For years upon years, there’s been a disconnect between people of different cultural/ethnic groups here in the U.S. This country is one of the biggest melting pots in the world. There is no reason that in 2024, with more blending of the many groups of people, there is still differences. The perecentage of representative is still very low for people of color in many industries. This is not just because there is no interest from another group. It’s because those at the top are not using their knowledge to support and receive. They are not passing on information to everyone and they are not receiving new information from the changing world around them.
As we end this month and almost end this year, let’s try to promote the art of support and receiving. The world is not going in the right direction as of late. I think this can help bring us back on track and get us to where we need.
