Each year there is at least one of us with a fitness goal on our list for the year. We all know how important it is to stay active and to stay healthy. The weather is now colder in most places in the U.S. During this time, we are indoors cooking and watching the television more. This equates to increased eating and adding on calories. The motivation to leave the house to go to the gym can be low. Finding a healthy way to stay active in the home can be helpful.
I have never been one who liked going to the gym. Almost 5 years ago now I started taking restorative yoga and this is the closest I’d been to a facility in some years. I do this to assist with maintaining balance and muscle elongation as I start to get older. When it comes to strengthening exercise, being able to do this at home is my preferred choice. I have small weights and TheraBand to assist but I also enjoy following various fitness influencers on YouTube.
In the past, you had to buy video tapes or DVDs, but now there are many streaming sources to free videos.
So, what workout plan am I using and is available to you also?
Yoga/Stretching: With the mix of meditative breathing and stretching you focus on your muscular health and flexibility. This a great choice to warm up your body before the more intense movements.
Dance Aerobics: An rhythmic exercise that incorporates music. I remember the first time I did Zumba years ago, I was laughing at those who couldn’t keep up with the rhythm but I was also laughing at myself for the muscle soreness I felt the next day. Now there are so many videos such as the one below on YouTube that give you the opportunity to engage in this form of movement in the comfort of your home.
Strengthening and Cardio (with or without equipment): Whether doing squats, doing push-ups, or doing lunges, all of these exercises help in reaching fitness goals.
So, which will you choose in this new year. The options are unlimited, but just doing your best to try leads to better health in the future.
