Rain or Shine

Posted on May 30, 2025May 29, 2025 by Virtual Afro Woman

Here in New York our weather has been so back and forth between hot and cold and rain or shine for the past month. It’s supposed to be the end of the spring, but it feels like the end of winter some days. As someone who thrives off sun and warmth I’m not enjoying it. The days that are dark and gloomy has taken a toll. When I must wake up early and have enough energy to give at work with children, it can be difficult. Having to go out of the house itself is difficult when you just want to lay down. One thing this weather has done was make fun times go back and forth between the outdoors and indoors. So, being that I live in New York, what are the things that can be done for enjoyment on these conflicting weather days.

Shine= You have Central Park in Manhattan and Prospect Park in Brooklyn. These are two parks with a lot of greenery that can take away the noise from outside of it. You can sit on the lawn. Go bike riding. Go bird watching. There’s even roller skating in Prospect Park. There are many unlimited options in these large parks.

Rain= There are many museums such as the Museum of Natural History, but one place I enjoy outside of them is Madam Tussaud’s Wax Museum in Times Square. You can touch the art that are designed to look like some of your favorite people. You get to take lots of pictures to make the rainy days better. If relaxation is what you want instead, movie and a meal is great and the Alamo Draft House is a good choice. With locations in Brooklyn and Manhattan, you have optios to see a movie and get served at your seat with great food and drink options.

Hot= I prefer beaches in the Caribbean, but New York City has a few of them. Now that it’s the official start to summer beach season, the beaches are officially open. You have Rockaway Beach and Coney Island/Brighton Beach which are popular. If you want to head out of the city a popular one is Jones Beach in Long Island which is not too far out.

Cold= I enjoy bowling and two of my favorite places are Frames Bowling Lounge NYC in Time Square and Brooklyn Bowl in Brooklyn. Frames has great packages for small groups. They also have other activities to enjoy for a fee such as pool and ping pong. Brooklyn Bowl is also a concert venue and they often have shows and/or DJ sets. Plus if you get in to bowl before they start charging at the door for the event, hang around and you get a 2 for 1 deal.

Since everyday is a weather gamble, let’s see what we get today here in New York City. Whether it’s rain or shine, hot or cold, may we all just enjoy our free time. If you’re ever in the area, check out these places.
