Pride and Joy

Posted on July 24, 2024July 24, 2024 by Virtual Afro Woman

Yesterday officially started the season for the Leo, astrological sign. The animal symbol is a Lion, so this sparked my thoughts for today’s entry.

What comes to your mind when you think of a Lion? Is it fear. It’s mane. Or maybe it’s large size. These words are all accurate, but today I would like to highlight their groups or pride and their role in our environment.

By definition, a pride is a group of lionesses, cubs, and breeding males who work together to mate, protect their territory, and hunt. These prides consist of anywhere between 4 and 40 members. There are some negatives to prides such as being forced out due to food scarcity and males entering a new pride and killing the cubs. But on the other end, the positives are their roles in helping maintain a good ecosystem. Lions are the top predator that helps control herbivore populations such as zebras. This protects our plants, maintaining enough resources for other animals including humans. Today, Lions only live in 8% of the land they once inhabited, reducing their populations. This can lead to greater problems in the future world.

As humans, the idea of having a pride, with each member playing a role is something we should think about. Our world has turned into an individualized environment. Many people think about themselves and not the greater good of everyone. We as people must live up to our full potential by working together to create longevity. Life is not perfect, there are flaws but we must do our best to maintain order.

In life, having a leader who helps in teaching the young life’s lessons, the greater our society can be. As someone who works with children, some families are having a harder time parenting for various reasons including intellectual limitations. Overall, people are having a harder time obtaining economic freedom even when working long hours for large corporations. Families are allowing minor conflicts to force them into leading separate lives away from that love. I can continue with more examples, but my point is we should strive to create pride and help each other succeed. Where jealousy is left at the front door and joy exists. In this season of the Leo, let’s think about the ways of the Lion away from our fear of them and more for creating effective prides that function properly and its members live to their full potential.
