As humans, we go through so much in our lives that sometimes trying to stay positive in certain situations can be difficult. I sometimes find myself putting more effort into helping others maintain positivity than I do for myself. Many times, we put more into everything around us than we do for ourselves. Having to work each day for most of the year can be a drain on the body. Having responsibilities outside of work can be difficult. But, having time to take care of ourself and our mental overload is important. Last Thursday was Mental Health Action Day. In this first full week since, think about what actions can be taken for your inner peace.
What are some ways in which to discover them…
- Write a comparison list: On one side write down what makes you happy. On the other side write down what makes you unhappy. Which side is longer. Now whether it’s the happy side or the unhappy side, consider what you listed and decide on what you can do to continue or improve it. For example, if it’s the happy side, imagine if traveling was on your list. You can continue to do this by saving a portion of each of your paychecks. Now, if on the unhappy side you have work. Evaluate and decide if there are other opportunities you can try to replace this whether that be in the same field or moving on to something different.
- Rating System: At the end of each day, rate your stress levels. Next, see what happened today compared to the day before. Can what caused you increased stress be adjusted before it festers?
- Date yourself: If you can find any time to yourself even in those moments of using the bathroom, center in on your mental. Meditate. If you can go to the spa for the day, do it. If you go for a drive, do it. Do anything that makes you happy and try to commit to it more often.
So, the time to take action is today and everyday ahead. Work towards being a little selfish. Staying positive for yourself along with doing it for others is important.
