Today is a remembrance for an event that happened 23 years ago today. This day is often mentioned as September 11th, 2001 or 9/11. Some of you like me were around during this time and can remember where you were. Others were too young or yet to be born. Our job as people is to make sure we remember those lives lost in such an hate-filled event. The terrorists took away people who were loved. People who had families. People who could have done great things in this world if they had more years to live.
In NYC, it was at the World Trade Center Twin Towers where the most lives were lost. The feeling of the city after this time was dark. There was even a smell of death in the air for an extended period. I can remember coming home during this time watching the news almost every day to hear the stories of those who were missing and to see if anything/anyone was found under the debris. I’m not even sure if much crime took place during this time because so many were in shock with all that happened. For those who were not around during this time, the early parts of the COVID pandemic in NYC had a similar feeling thousands of people died unexpectantly. We as people were in shock and in fear.
So, on this day, let’s continue to make sure we remember this event and the lives lost. Let’s remember and do our best to be the best we can because we still have a life to live. To the memory of those who worked in the Twin Towers. I will remember those who were in the Pentagon. To the memory of those who were on the planes the terrorist used to do the attack. I will remember the many first responders who lost their life on this day. And I will remember the people who lost their lives from illnesses related to this event. Never forget September 11th.
