I’m Moving On

Posted on August 16, 2024August 15, 2024 by Virtual Afro Woman

Making decisions each day can be difficult sometimes. Deciding whether to take the offer for a new position. Making the choice to move to a more affordable living space away from the area you know and love. Or deciding whether or not you can afford to have more kids at the current moment in your life. These are different examples, but each of them requires a lot of thinking. This week, the President of Columbia University has resigned from her position. This came months after the Israeli-Palestinian protest on campus. She reported that the decision was tough, but it was one she had to make for the school to move forward. Having to make such big decisions are hard. When is the right time for you to say, you know what, I’m moving on?!

Everything in our life happens for a reason and for a season. Sometimes we get stuck in a moment that no longer serves us with purpose. We then have a hard time making that change.

For myself, I had a secondary job that ended earlier this year after more than 8 years of service. In year 2, there were some big changes, but I adjusted because it was different and provided a challenge. By year 5, I was at the point where it no longer became something I enjoyed, but I kept doing it. By year 7, I came to the point where if they didn’t need my services during a period, I was excited. At this point it was no longer about making additional money, I just saw it as something I made a commitment to. So, I set a mission to make it to 10 years and then I would resign. Well, guess what, the facility was set to close, so my time was winding down. It was bittersweet, but in the end, I was happy and saw it as a sign from a higher power. I didn’t allow myself to move on when I needed to. This is something that happens to so many people. Following this, the positive is that I now have more time to focus on my new small business.

The year’s end is fast approaching. Now is that time to prepare the energy you want as you move into 2025. Is there anything happening in your life that requires making a big decision? Now’s the time to assess what’s going on. See if it’s time to move on towards that new thing that you have been holding yourself back from. Whatever decision you make, just make sure it’s in your best interest towards your continued greatness.
