**It is now Black History Month, and the theme of the series is to honor Black Inventors. **
There was once a time when walkers were only the standard type. There were no options of a seat or storage area that we have today.
Imagine a time when women with a menstrual cycle had to use cloth to manage during this time. This method was not secure and could cause many accidents.
Also, there was a time when in public toilet paper holders did not have an attachment to make the tissue easily accessible to all.
The person who is responsible with helping to solve these problems was Mary Beatrice Davidson Kenner. A woman who had to drop out of college due to financial hardship. She came from a family of inventors before her. Her first patent took 30 years to get due to finances. The creation of the sanitary napkin belt which was the precursor to sticky menstrual pads. She created the tray and pocket attachment for walkers to help carry items. A tissue holder that made it easier to grasp the end of the tissue with it not collapsing back into the roll. She went through many obstacles to patent these items but due to discrimination did not gain the fame and wealth expected. Her creations gave the ideas to products we now have today that make life a lot easier. So, thank you Ms. Davidson Kenner for your contributions alongside so many great inventors in Black History.
