**It is now Black History Month, and the theme of the series is to honor Black Inventors. **
Can you imagine driving around in your car, coming to an intersection and being scared to move?
Picture, if there were only stop signs on side roads with no regulations on larger roads?
Can you imagine aspiring to work for the fire department and not knowing how long you would live after inhaling so much smoke while saving a life?
To answer these questions, let’s be grateful we don’t have to imagine. The man who allowed us to not think about these things is Garret Morgan. An African American man born in 1877 who only had an elementary school education. His business mind made way for an imaginative one. He created the T shaped traffic light that was the blueprint to what we see on the streets today. Also, he created the safety hood or gas mask which helps firefighters who risk their lives in smoke filled environments. In this month of Black History, let’s thank this man for his contribution to our present society. As a Black person, our history is plagued by traumatic events but we have done so much great things that have benefitted all in this world. Our history must continue to be told, so until Part Two, keep yourself informed.
