My reset summer is nearing its end. I don’t know where time has gone, but it went somehow. After having a little time with some freedom, I must soon report back to ‘adulting.’ Can you believe there was a time in my life where I wanted to be this age or just ‘older’ than what I was.
Here’s what I enjoy about ‘adulting’
- I am more secure in who I am and care less about what others think negatively about me.
- I get to have a space in which I rule. Even though I now share my space with my husband, I still have some control over it.
- I have improved control over the energy and people I allow in my life.
- I’m more confident in my conversations especially when speaking in front of a room of people.
- Being that I must adult, I picked a great career being an Occupational Therapist. The jobs are there.
- My mind is set less on asking to eat out and more on having homecooked meals.
- I am proud of myself for drinking more water and eating less candy.
Here’s what I miss about being under 18 years old/21 years old (later start with our economy)
- I was chauffeured around in a car by adults to most places.
- I didn’t have to pay any bills at all.
- There were only one or two chores I was responsible for in my home.
- School was more fun than work.
- More hours to have fun than to be responsible.
- I got to save my allowance and still spend my parent’s money.
- Less visits to the doctor.
- My skin was smoothier.
- More discounts when you’re a kid or student.
So for the young adults who have just turned entered this world of ‘adulting,’ good luck! I’m sure you may have wanted to get older, but it’s not that great when you’re here. Enjoy your current moments of having less responsibilities because they just keep gowing in number the older you get.
