A Dollar and a Dream

Posted on June 23, 2025June 23, 2025 by Virtual Afro Woman

In today’s world, one dollar can’t get you much of anything. You need a few to a lot of dollars to make something happen. But a dream can get you a lot if you’re willing to put in the work. In America, we are encouraged to work, work, work. No one teaches us the true way to work towards economic freedom. No one teaches the average worker how to create generational wealth. Over the years, working multiple jobs to make a few dollars has been something I did. I saved as much as I could to create freedom to work on my dream. Now, I have greatly reduced my participation in the 9-to-5 environments to work on my small business passion in a way that’s different from my regular career.

In this life of ours, we do our best to take care of ourselves and our family if you have one. Sometimes this requires sacrifice that forces you into participating in something you don’t love. For myself, I enjoy my career as an Occupational Therapist. I worked hard in school to come into this career, and I enjoy working with the populations I have. But when working in any field there’s more to it that involves management, rules for when to come to work, etc. Over time these things bring stress and pressure. Then you look to find other ways to bring more joy in your life.

This is where a dream comes in. I’m sure we all have dreams of becoming millionaires. Being able to take off work for a few weeks when needed. Or even, just traveling the world when you want. Unfortunately, most stays a dream, but I believe with work you can be on your way to making it a reality. If there is something you want to pursue, do it. Continue to work to make a few dollars and create a path to your dream. No one person who has started something from the ground up can say that they had it all instantly. They worked hard by putting in the time and the work. Working on my small business is solo work that involves direction and networking, but it’s done on your own terms and the joy I have for it helps create a balance between the 9-to-5 and the business.

So, if you’re someone who has a dream, keep it in mind. Don’t forget it or push it to the side. Work on it all while working to make a few dollars. Take one of your dollars whenever you get paid to invest in yourself and whatever you are passionate about. Sometimes it only takes one dollar to build a dream. Who knows maybe you will become a millionaire, take off from work when you want, or travel the world, among other things. Maybe that dream is not about any of this. Just be sure to pursue your dreams in this world.
