Each year for the last 9 years, I have created my annual list of goals before the new year starts, and this year I made a goal to get 2 full body massages to help reset my body in the first and second half of the year. I created this goal because I love massages and had about 4 in my adult years and I feel like each time (minus one Groupon establishment where the masseuse was clearly not professionally trained) I was briefly taken out of this world. As human beings, we only have a set number of years on this Earth and as busy as our days and nights can get with various personal responsibilities, the one thing we can’t forget is our self or well-being.
With September being Self-Care Awareness month, I wanted to create a weekly self-care project to help you all engage in something for yourself. This week the task is….
TAKE A NICE, WARM BATH
I know in my younger years, as many of you will agree, baths were the way our parents usually cleaned us during those dirty days. During this time, you got to play with the bubbles, play with your toys, and have funny conversations with your parents. As we get older, many of us resort to showers as it’s convenient, requiring less time for similar results. I try to take a bath a few times a year and yes, I don’t spend as much time in the tub as when I was a child, but each time I feel refreshed in a way you don’t get with a shower.
So, are you all ready to create this experience for yourself? Below you will find the steps into making this experience worthwhile.
- Sound: Create a music playlist of tunes that will calm your spirit.
- Smell: Light a candle in a safe area or use a plug-in to create a good scent for the area.
3. Temperature: Run the water at a temperature one grade warmer than you prefer with products such as bubble bath or bath bombs.
4. Peace: Do not engage with your phone, I repeat, do not engage with your phone! If you need it for your music, just make sure to keep it at a distance so you won’t be tempted to use it. Also, if you have a family try to take a bath at a time where you can get a few minutes to yourself.
5. Refreshments: Bring yourself one small cup/glass of your favorite drink or a quick snack to occupy your time and bring comfort.
6. Touch: At the end don’t forget to scrub your body to remove the dead skin and allow your skin to reset.
7. Repeat: As often as you need to help you maintain your state of tranquility
In the end, remember, SELF-CARE is the BEST CARE! Enjoy and let us know below how you felt after treating yourself.
