As summer is winding down, we reflect back on the hotter weather days as the nights begin to get cooler and the time we spent outside having fun as our pockets may now be a little lighter. Last month, we worked on our actions and thoughts about who we are as individuals with self-awareness month. This month is self-care/healthy aging awareness month; with this, we focus on behaviors/routines to maintain our well being. The challenge for the month is to treat yourself because if we don’t care for ourselves, we are of limited use to others. How can you treat yourself you might ask?! Below are some ways you can unwind and live “selfishly” and hopefully go on to incorporating this more in the future.
- Get your hair done professionally
- Give yourself a nice pedicure/manicure or get it professionally done
- Go to the spa
- Get a professional massage
- Treat yourself to a sweet treat such as ice cream or cheesecake
- Take yourself on a date to the movies, dinner, etc.
- Take a nice hot bath
- Read a good book
- Watch a show you love or a new show alone
- Go for a walk
- Find a new hobby in person or online
- Hang out with friends
- Dance to your favorite music
- Buy yourself a small gift
- Cook a nice meal for yourself
- Get some rest by staying in the bed/in the house for the day
- Sit on your porch/balcony/in the park alone with a nice book or just being one with nature.
