Make Money Moves

Posted on January 23, 2026January 22, 2026 by Virtual Afro Woman

So much of the unexpectant is currently taking place. The traditional American way of education focus on basic reading and math, but fails to teach us the ways of true success which is financial wellness. We have been programmed to thinking that going to college was the way to financial security. Seeing the problems surrounding student loan forgiveness in the last few years, it has made me question how much our government truly cares about us. So, with it being 2026, I plan to make good money moves. I will be focusing on my financial future on my own terms, by learning to play the game. We must all think about the money moves we have to make in order to be able to take care of ourselves comfortably into old age.

Recently, I came across a video with Angela Rye and Ashley M. Fox (see below). I had never heard of Ashley, but what she had to say sparked my interest. At the start of the video, Angela shows one of Ashley’s Instagram posts where she shares the idea of buying stock for the brands you love just as much as buying their items. I’m not a person who buys from high end fashion brands, but all of this makes sense. As consumers, when we buy products, we make the creators and investors rich. By purchasing stock in these brands, we can work towards making ourselves richer. Imagine spending $1000 on a purse from any brand where their stock is $29 per share. You can buy many shares and make money off the brand and then purchase somewhere down the line from the profits.

The idea of making smart investment choices takes time. I have opportunities through work but a couple of years ago I started a Robinhood account. This has taught me a little bit as I can see the movement of the stocks I purchased. So far, the investments that I have seen good results have been Gap, Cisco, and Vanguard High Dividend Yield ETF. I have been really surprised about Gap and it is doing better than JetBlue where I also purchased a share.

In the end, Ashley M Fox seems to be someone who I will begin the follow along with some others such as Earn Your Leisure. She has a compnay called Empify that can help with the investment process as well. So many people are passing away younger and younger, working and not obtaining some sort of financial wellness. The time has come where I want to create a change for myself. I do not want to be that person working until I’m 65 and getting sick before enjoying the fruits of my hard work. I will continue to do my research and do my best to create my own financial wellness.
