The 2011 song, “I Smile.” By Kirk Franklin has always brought joy to my system. In the last few days while listening to an iHeartRadio station, I’ve been hearing it a lot. This song is a positive one because it describes the power of a smile even in the darkest of days. As we navigate life things happen that may force us to lose our smile. But what happens when you actively work to keep one on your face.
- Lowers Blood Pressure: The health of our heart relies on the stability of our blood pressure. As we know, our heart is what keeps our body alive, so to protect it, a smile can help.
- Improves Immune System: Our body’s immune system helps to protect us from foreign substances by producing antibodies. The more immune cells the better the fight can be. So, by smiling more, the body can put up a greater fight.
- Better Relatioships: Having a good laugh with the people around you can add more positivity to the relationship.
- Reduce Pain: Have you ever been sick and then someone cracks a joke and you laugh. For that brief moment you did not feel sick and felt no pain. That’s the power of a smile.
- Anti-Aging/Longevity: Whether reducing wrinkles or adding a few years to your life, smiling can helpwith both.
So, on this Friday and each day after, I hope you find some time to smile. Even if it hurts, hold you head up. Because, in the end, you look so much better when you smile.
