I Love Myself

Posted on January 8, 2024January 7, 2024 by Virtual Afro Woman

As women, the responsibilities we have in this world can weigh on us. Our society tells us in the workforce, we are inferior to men. That being happily single is impossible. How long we have for maternity leave. Says it is wrong to want to be child free. And that our body size/skin type is not appealing. Now, we are in the year 2024, and it’s time to decide what we want for ourselves. January is Self-Love Awareness Month, so how about we start now.

What does self-love include? How about forgiving ourself when we don’t feel like we’re doing our best. Accepting the beauty we see in front of us when looking in the mirror. Asking for help when needed. Listening to our body’s needs. Along with a list of others. Since the end of the pandemic, many have struggled, and nurturing our mind, body, and soul got affected.

The mind/body connection is very powerful and the way we think is the how our body responds. If we lead with loving ourselves our body will give us some love in return. When we are hard on ourselves, the stress sends our body into flight with negative responses.

For August, the challenge was to say positive affirmations, and this is something we should continue now. Write it down, post it around your home, yell it out while you’re driving in the car, or do what it is that makes you feel loved. We each have our own uniqueness, so do all that you can to bring that out.

To end, lets step into this journey with the words of the late Maya Angelou- It’s the fire in my eyes, And the flash of my teeth, The swing in my waist, And the joy in my feet. I’m a woman Phenomenally. Phenomenal woman, That’s me… AND YOU!
